THE WHY

Google Forms Links to an external site. provides an efficient way to distribute, collect, and evaluate formative assessments. Since the forms can be graded quizzes, this allows the teacher to easily identify students' needs to differentiate instruction in a timely manner.

Google Forms allows students to design forms to collect authentic data beyond the walls of the classroom, interact and communicate with a real-world audience of learners and experts. The data can be synced to a spreadsheet, and graphed, all of which can be shared.

Google Forms provides an opportunity for students to apply critical thinking while analyzing and evaluating data. Students can use digital tools to represent the data in various ways, sorting and filtering the data, and creating graphs. It provides the opportunity to foster information literacy and provides lessons on copyright.

Classroom Application

Browse these ideas and start to formulate a plan for using Google Forms in your classroom. If you are new to Google Forms, look at the Basic section. If you are an experienced user, check out the Advanced section.

Basic

1. Students can use a from to reflect on their learning and identify their placement on a proficiency scale.
2. Encourage students to read by having them complete their reading records electronically using Google Forms. A log of students reading entries can then be created as a record for future interventions.
3. Use forms to create a sign-out for resources (i.e. laptops) so a log is created for allocated resources.
4. Create a form that you can use to enter details each time you contact a parent, generating a parent contact log.
5. Create a form that you can use as a scoring guide.
6. A form can be used to collect and/or share student work in the form of a web address or an uploaded file. (Example: How to "ClassSource” a Simple, Meaningful, and USEFUL Review Document Links to an external site.)
7. Invite parents into the classroom by utilizing a form to sign up to volunteer.
8. Students can create forms to collect data from people outside of the classroom when working on a project, collaborating with another group of learners, connecting with a mentor or consulting an expert.

Advanced
