THE WHYGoogle Hangouts is a space that amplifies teaching, where students interact with and learn from one another, where they reflect on concepts and ideas, and where they teach others what they know. It supports global connections that are key to building empathy and social awareness for students beyond their classroom. Google Hangouts can facilitate creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking. It can add authenticity to the learning by connecting with the outside world. It can be used to provide students with opportunities to design, prove, compare, contrast, cite evidence, draw conclusions, develop a logical argument, interview, plan model, categorize, survey and conclude. It allows the opportunity to provide instruction in digital citizenship: cyberbullying, digital footprint, information literacy, privacy and security, creative credit and copyright.
