Novell/OES Accounts
Novell (more recently known as "OES") is an app for managing access to computer resources and keeping track of the users of a network.
Staff Novell/OES Accounts
Staff are provided with Novell/OES accounts which allow them access to their own personal H: drive on the server, building-level drives on the server (G: for K-6 or K: for 7-12), and district-level drives (F:).
To initially set, or to reset your Novell/OES password, you can use the Self Service Password Reset Links to an external site. tool. The first time you access this tool you will have to change your password from the default provided, and set up your security questions.
Novell Password Policy
- Password is case sensitive.
- Must be at least 8 characters long.
- Must not include part of your name or user name.
- Must not include a common word or commonly used sequence of characters.
- New password may not have been used previously.
Student Novell Accounts
- Students do NOT have to log in to Novell in order to utilize their school Chromebooks.
- At the start of a new school year all student Novell/Canvas passwords are reset to "tigers123" and students will be required to use the Self Service Password Reset Links to an external site. to create new security questions and change that initial password.
- If after 3 logins they have not changed their password, they will be locked out. The high school library assists all students with resetting their passwords as needed throughout the year.
Server Drive Descriptions
Staff Novell/OES logins provide access to a district-level drive (F:), which all users district-wide can access. There is a "Shared" folder on that drive where any staff member can create folders and save files for sharing across the district. Each building also has a building-level drive (G: for K-6 buildings, K: for MS & HS). This has similar features of the district F: drive, except limited to the building level. There are "Shared" folders in these drives for similar purposes. Each user then also has a personal H: drive. Only that user can see the H: drive, so it is a safe storage location for files, especially important files that could be difficult to replace in the unlikely event that the desktop or laptop device should fail.
All Novell/OES server drive access, while still potentially useful, has been significantly superseded by Google Drive. Files stored in Google Drive are easily available from any location with Internet access, from any device that has a browser. This is incredibly convenient. See the Google entries in the Vault if you'd like more information on Google Drive.
Troubleshooting Logging In
If you get an error message when you try to login to your desktop computer, look for the link on the login screen that says "Show Advanced Options" or just "Advanced".
That should show you a screen where you will see an entry for a "Tree". That box should contain the single word, "Willard". Capitalization should not matter, but if you see anything in that box other than the word "Willard" by itself, just click in the box to make that change and click the Apply button or OK.
At that point your login should work properly. If you continue to have problems logging in after making this adjustment, please put in a work order.
