Drive Size for Moving Docs
As you prepare to move files from a school account to a personal account, you need to be aware of available space. With our school accounts, we are fortunate to have unlimited space. Unfortunately, with a personal account you are limited to 10 gb of space (although you can buy additional space for a monthly fee).
To avoid issues or to help you decide what you can copy to your personal drive, you need to take a quick look at how much you are moving and how much space you have in the new location. To determine how much drive space you are currently using in your school account, open google drive. In the left hand panel near the bottom, you will see the amount of drive space used. It is written in gray and if you hover over it, you can see a breakdown of the usage. You can see in my example below, that I have used 4 GB of space, with half of it being used for gmail. Repeat this process with the account you are moving your data into, so you do not run into any space issues. In my case, I would want to make sure I have 4 GB available in my personal account before I try to move my data over. If you do not have enough space, you may have to be a bit more creative. You could go through your docs and make some decisions about what you want to keep. You could actually create an additional free gmail account, but that gets harder to track.
