Engagement: Task Design
Teachers who care about student learning (aka: YOU!) will make sure their students have meaningful learning experiences no matter the setting. YOU HAVE THIS!
Take a moment and consider the good task design practices you implement in the physical classroom space:
-
- Open ended tasks that allow students to approach it in multiple ways
- Emphasis on problem-solving
- Focus on connecting and relating to task: high order thinking questions, looking for patterns, comparing and contrasting
- Opportunity for inquiry, allowing for students to try out ideas to see what works before being told
- Technology tool matches the function of the task
- Student choice allows for differentiated approaches to learning when these are geared to specific students and/or levels. You can also use menus (choice boards) and hyper-docs to provide options.
- Provide sentence stems, graphic organizers, video tutorials for all students.
A Learning Framework
How will you incorporate these components of learning into your lessons? Purpose will drive when and how you include each element. Below are examples and details for each component that should be present in all learning regardless of where learning is taking place.
