The Background Layer
Watch the The Background Layer (Links to an external site.) (1.5 minutes) under the Basic Setup & Layout tab.
- Two main layers: Top and background.

Access the background layer and edit it: Click the Properties tab on the side>Page Properties Widget>Hide Top Layer.
- Anything you have on the top layer will disappear, but will return when you go back to the top layer.
- Status indicator in the top right corner shows just 1 piece of paper icon to indicate you are working on the background layer. When is shows 2 pieces of paper icon, you are working on the Top layer.
- Anything you have on the top layer will disappear, but will return when you go back to the top layer.
- When you insert images from the Gallery you can choose to place it on the top or background layer.
- Return to the top Layer: Click the Properties tab on the side>Page Properties Widget>Hide Top Layer.
Applications
- Labeling an image: Putting the image in the background will prohibit the accidental selection/edit of the image.
- Saves time: Anything that is template in nature, that you are going to use repeatedly with different classes you can put in the background and not have recreate for each class, yet be able to add annotations on top of it during the lesson.
